CSPP Lecture Series | Truths & Myths about the Role of Nutrition in Mental Health and Psychopharmacology
Three quarters of the adult US population —more than 170 million - use dietary supplements, according to the Council for Responsible Nutrition‘s 2017 Survey on Dietary Supplements. Nutrients are required for normal function of all organ systems in the body, including the brain. This presentation will help identify examples of how vitamins and minerals affect brain function with special emphasis on neurotransmitter synthesis and metabolism. Common myths about vitamins, minerals, and supplements will be discussed.

Judith Steinman, PhD
Associate Professor and Program Director, Psychopharmacology @CSPP
In addition to her role as CSPP program director, Dr. Steinman is Past-President of APA's American Society for the Advancement of Pharmacotherapy (Division 55). She served as the Program Coordinator of the Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology (MSCP) at - of Hawai`i - Hilo's Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy for seven years and continues to teach students in the MSCP program. She is also a board member of the Big Island Substance Abuse Council and is a member of the Hawaiʻi Psychological Association's RxP Committee and Political Action Committee.
