DESCRIPTION:This presentation will review safe and effective treatment stra
 tegies for pharmacotherapy of active duty\, guard\, and reserve military m
 embers suffering from psychiatric illnesses. Each military service's medic
 al standards (fitness) will be explained\, and psychotropic drug use in th
 e context of preserving military readiness and addressing day-to-day "duty
  impact" will be discussed\, especially considering the current recruitmen
 t/retention crisis. Participants will understand which drug classes may di
 squalify patients for continued military service\, and alternative managem
 ent strategies for most conditions faced by this population will be explor
 ed.\n\nAt the conclusion of this talk\, participants will feel more confid
 ent about serving members of the military and preserving their careers. Dr
 . Ruth Roa-Navarrete is a Clinical/Prescribing Psychologist and an Air For
 ce Psychologist with 23 years of service. She is a graduate of Alliant Int
 ernational University's 3rd cohort as part of a formal Air Force post-doct
 oral fellowship program. She has been prescribing independently since 2010
  in the context of multiple assignments in U.S. and overseas locations\, a
 nd 2 contingency deployments. Her areas of interest include Women's Mental
  Health and Transcultural Psychopharmacology. She has been an adjunct prof
 essor for Alliant since her fellowship\, and a faculty member/preceptor fo
